Essex Met league Report - Saturday January 24th

All the Junior league fixtures were cancelled (9.30am) matches. The Youth and Senior League continued for the rest of the day but unfornately not all the matches turned out how we at Cambell would have liked. Good wins from the White & SIlver team who are both top of their respective leagues.

U16 National League

A well hard fought win against Kent club this week. Excellent shooting from both Maisy & Rochelle helped take this match. Player of the match Alex who defended and attacked with consistency through out. There were some good defending from Jaz, Kirsty and Reanne with some fine interceptions along with Helen and Zoe who worked hard and fed some great ball s into the circle. Well Played all of you.

U16 National League Saturday 31st Jan

Excellent shooting from Rochelle who produced a 77% shooting average helped her team to a good win on Saturday by beating Hillcrest from Surrey by 41 goals to 18.  This match did not start easy and the girls had to work hard as the 1st quarter score was just 7 - 6 to Cambell. Hillcrest kept up the fight into the 2nd quarter making it difficult but through a few tips and interceptions we were able double the 1st Q score to take it to 14 -12.  3rd Q at last Cambell started to take control and with Kirsty and Reanne in defence picking up interceptions one after the other they were able to cut Hillcrests goals to just 3 in that and also the last quarter. Last quarter Rochelle continued her excellent shooting ably assisted by Maisy who scored 16 goals and the centre court of Alex Jaz & Zoe found the gaps to feed some great balls in.  An excellent win to take them into 1st place.

Essex Met League - Saturday 24th January

With all Junior matches being cancelled due to the weather and dangerous courts it was nice to see that the Youth and Senior section was also not cancelled. Having said that it was another disappointing day for the majority of the teams.  This was not helped with players being ill, but please all of you, you have a fixture list, you know the times of your matches and the days that they are being played - so you need to ensure that you are there and then at least 1/2 hr before your match and not let your team down.

Youth fixtures: The Yellow team was one of those that were let down by their own team members who left them short of players on the day.  With just 6 of them they worked like troopers and made it a very competitve match.  With excellent movement and shooting from Lauren and Jasmin and Jess and Nicole working and chasing up and down the court and Amy and Katie working hard in the defending circle kept the score within 10 at 36-42. Well Done and well worked all of you.

Essex Met League - Saturday 10th January

At last a Saturday fixture, it didnt snow but if you stood still long enough you may have frozen. Well Done to everyone, players, umpires, scorers, parents and coaches you did a grand job on Saturday. Please see report in my Column below.

Youth Team Results:

The 1.30 slot saw our Orange team (they had 4 players playing up this week - so a very big thank you to Vicky: Rianne: Zoe & Jaz) play against an experienced Foxes team. 4 goals down in the 1st quarter they managed to pull it back to level at half time, went down 7 goals in the 3rd quarter but in the 4th our girls were flying.  Interceptions were coming from everywhere and our shooters finding the space and the goal ring 2 minutes to go and the score was level.  A great game with fantastic effort from Rebecca (POM) Nicky and Lauren along with their young compatriots they lost by just 2 goals. Also at 1.30 were our young Yellow team.  They have been finding the first round of matches tough but they have all survived to live another day.  Watch out teams then 2nd time round they play them.  Just remember this season is for you to learn and gain experience ready for next season. POM Katie  Keep it up.

U16 National League

New Cambell were out at home Redbridge Sports Centre for their 1st National league match of the season on Saturday and found it hard going. They played against Cobham the team from Surrey and struggled the first quarter which left them trying to play catch up through out the match. Silly mistakes and lack of discipline made the play through out very inconsistent in attack and yet there was some great defending from the team and many turnovers.  New Cambell eventually ran out winners with just minutes to spare:

Essex Met League - Saturday November 22nd

Youth Team Results:
Also playing at this time was our Yellow team (8) who are all U15's and like previously said this is a completely new experience for all of them this year. They played against OPA 'C' and worked hard through out the match but the weather I think finally got to them and they lost by 17goals to 40:
The Orange team playing against a very experienced Ilford 2 team. The orange team although not having won a match this season played with gutso and determination. They fought hard though out to keep the score close and at one time were just 1 goal behind due to some excellent feeding in by Kirsty Ann. In the end the experience of their GS was the telling force as she controlled the game to take Ilford to a win of 41 goals to 34. Player of the Match Lauren

U19's Regional Competition

On Sunday 9th November our U19 squad took part in the AENA Regional competition at Redbridge Sports Centre.  The girls had had extra training sessions for this and week by week they grew stronger and gelled as a squad.  For the last couple of training sessions they were invited to the prem squads training nights where they held their own & worked extremely hard.  Sharon & I were getting quite excited as we knew we had a squad of exceptionally talented players.

We received the order of play before the day and knew we had the tougher section: Academy, KCNC, Palmers Green & Comets. Due to 2 teams dropping out in the other section Academy, who are also a very strong  team, got moved and although we saw this as a bonus we knew we had to win our section so we wouldn't meet them until the finals.  The girls played out of their skins and with sheer grit, determination and pure skill we found ourselves having won all our games with only one to go.  This was against Downs who had also won all their games.  We didn't get off to a good start and found ourselves 4 goals down at half time, although the girls dug deep they were unable to make up the difference and lost by 2.  This meant we were runners up and were to play Academy in the semis.

The first half was goal for goal and at half time we found ourselves 1 goal up.  It was our centre pass going back and all we had to do was score off the rest of our centre passes & we had won !!!  Unfortunately due to 3 incorrect umpire decisions in the last few minutes we ended up loosing by 1 goal.  Sharon & I felt that the girls couldn't have done anymore to win.  They got turnover after turnover only for the umpires to take it away from us.

On behalf of Sharon & myself I would like to say it has been an honour & a pleasure to work with this squad.  They are not only very talented but polite, hard working and great fun to be with.  We only lose one player, (Terri Small whose play was outstanding), from this group for next year so bring it on !!!

Finally we would like to say a very big thank you Mike Tyler for being our scorer, to the prem squad for letting us gate crash your sessions & to all our supporters, you are the best !!!

Junior Rally - Hassenbrook Sunday 26th October

On a very, very cold wet and windy Sunday morning New Cambell took 6 junior teams to play in a tournament being held in Thurrock Essex. Our U15's lost in the finals of the U16 section to Star.

U14's - an exciting semi - final match took place between NewCambell 'A' & 'B' team with the 'A' team taking the honours and moved onto the Final to meet the team Pool from Dorset in Hampshire. Although a close game New Cambell pulled out all the stops to take the U14 title by 2 goals. Player of the U14 team Sophie Rollinson who was named Captain for the day.
Our U10's played in their first ever tournament with some as young as 6 years of age playing, although not winning any games managed to score 2 goals overall. Well Done to all teams - waiting for reports so more to come on our Junior Section.
