Essex Met Winter League Reports:
A wet but a relative warm day greeted us at Redbridge this week. The courts became very slippery once the rain started which at times curtailed our flowing style of play. Having said this, the majority of the players were able to adapt their play for these conditions and slowed their game down, although 1 or 2 of the players found themselves becoming excellent gymnasts on several occasions throughout the day.
Over all a much improved score line this week with 6 wins out of the 8 matches played. Full match reports soon – check out your page. (Green team In)
Top scoring team is shared this week with the Greens team shooters of Amy & Sarah and Oranges team shooters Maisy & Alex both groups scoring 46 goals apiece.
Best Goal Difference team: This went to the Silvers with a goal difference of 24 goals. So well done to Michaela; Lauren; Phoebie: Jose; Lucy; Kirsty & Rebecca;
Congratulations go to the following winning teams: Greens, Blues, Whites, Silvers, Oranges & Yellow.
NC Greens v OPA A - Final score: 46 - 32
The Green team braved the wind and drizzle to take on OPA A in the third match of the season, posting a solid performance to win by a significant margin.
Both teams took their time to settle in the first quarter, which was reflected in the score line of 6-7 to OPA.
Conditions were treacherous. Every player spent some time on the deck. There were some promising acrobatic displays, particularly from Rose.
In the second quarter the Greens woke up. Some excellent defensive work by Lauren, Sarah Rees and Katie meant that the OPA shooters were denied the ball in the circle countless times. This, combined with strong links through centre court and consistently good feeding into the circle from Rose and Sam, meant that the Greens won the quarter 19-5.
Although the Greens took their foot off the gas somewhat in the third quarter, reliable centre passes and clinical shooting from Sarah Tibble kept OPA at bay.To their credit, OPA refused to give up and won the fourth quarter by 3 goals. However, it was too little, too late, and the Greens deservedly won the match 46-32.
Particular thanks go to Sarah Rees and to Tracey for covering player absence so effectively.
Player of the match goes to Katie Nichols for her brave interceptions and relentless pressure on the OPA attack.

N C Silvers v's Conquerors - Final score: 44-20
After last weeks result (43-46) Cambell wanted a win this week and they made sure of it by beating their opponents by 24 goals. Despite the slippery conditions on the court it was a good game and Cambell deserved the win.
It took everyone a while to settle into the first quarter due to the poor weather conditions. The game started off with players rushing and throwing away passes to the opposition but once players started to adapt to these conditions the game started to flow and movement across the court improved. This meant our score started to increase.
The game showed good team play and brilliant interceptions in defence. The movement and shooting in the attacking circle was of a good standard which was reflected in the end result.
The only improvement I would suggest for our next game would be for players to think about their passes more and time their movements better so that they are not in the spaces they want to be too soon.
Well done to the silvers for achieving the best goal difference and missing out only by two goals on the most goals scored. This is not the first time we have achieved the best goal difference this season so well done and keep it up. Conquerors were also denied a point as they did not achieve half the score
Team: GS Michaela GA Lauren WA Jose C Phoebie WD Lucy GD Kirsty and GK Rebecca
Player of the match: Kirsty This was a majority vote and the reason for this decision was because of her impressive interceptions and defending in the circle throughout the game.

NC Reds vs Langdon 1 Final score 31-42
After a closely fought match against Sapphire A (NC Red lost by 2 goals) in their last league match NC Reds entered into the match against Langdon 1 with renewed confidence and hungry for their first win of the season.
The wind and drizzle made playing conditions difficult, with many players cautious of the slippery playing surface and leaves underfoot, it took the team a while to settle into the game and they found themselves trailing by 4 at quarter time. In the second quarter the Reds came back fighting and took Langdon’s first centre and continued to apply pressure throughout the quarter. At half time NC Reds remained four goals adrift but by no means were not out of the match. In the third and fourth quarters Langdon’s shooters stepped up a gear and despite some excellent defensive work from Ellie, Louis, Laura and Lauren they began to pull away, NC Reds fought right to the end and despite battling hard were unable to get back into the match.
Team: GS Heather, GA Rebecca, WA Teigan, C Lauren, WD Louise, GD Ellie, GK Laura M
Player(s) of the match: Ellie and Laura M

Essex Met Winter League - Saturday 17th October @ Redbridge
A disappointing Saturday as far as results go this week for New Cambell just 3 wins and 5 losses, but there were some great team moves and skills on display it was just a pity that they did not materialise into wins. Discipline Ladies!
Top score goes to the Green team having scored 52 goals, with the shooters this week of Sarah & Ruth: The majority of our teams this week lost by just a few goals but the Yellow team and the Purple team take the honours of best Goal Difference of 11 goals apiece.

Blues v Green Team Div 1
Inter club matches are always difficult (or strange) to play in and for this week’s match saw our top two teams take the court against each other. Unfortunately both teams had injuries but as a club we are fortunate in that we can play players up from the divisions below.
We found ourselves with injuries to Terri (hand caught in car door, courtesy of boyfriend!) and Tanesha, on her way back from holiday, had toe caught in the escalator! So both out for some time! Mary Ann was not well so Emily was let out of the circle to play GD and Katie Mac WD!
However, it was a good game, and played in a good spirit, although both teams wanting the win it was quite tough at times out there on court.
It started off fairly evenly, but we had a dodgy 3rd quarter and let the game slip. Our 4th quarter was good and we caught several goals up, but finally lost by 6. Not a bad result but we could have got closer. We are still getting used to each other and I know results will improve as the season goes on. Final Result 46 - 52

NC Whites v W Wanderers Div 2
Some good team play was seen in Saturday's match considering it was our first game playing as a team with Ruth as Goal Attack. All seven players worked hard to win the first two quarters of the match with good links bringing the ball down the court. Unfortunately despite battling hard throughout the second half, we were very unlucky to lose the match by three goals. All seven players' fighting spirit and perseverance to keep trying to win the ball back and win the match was commendable.
Looking forward to next Saturdays game.

Silvers v Marshalls: Divison 4
Lost: 9-13: 11-11: 14-15: 9-7: FINAL SCORE 43 - 46
After having a very successful start to the season by winning their first match with a 30 goal difference, on Saturday the Silver team had a much tougher game losing only by 3 goals with a final score of 46-43. Only having Lauren as their main shooter, and with Ifeoma running a little late, the team positions were decided last minute with Lydia stepping in as GA. After throwing a few silly balls away, the team found themselves 4 goals behind at the end of the 1st quarter (9-13). A few team changes were made, including Ifeoma arriving and going on as GS, the team pulled together and managed to draw the second quarter (11-11). With some brilliant work in defence, the team turned over several centre passes and found themselves playing goal for goal - and managed to be drawing at one point in the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately, again some balls were thrown away and the team lost the 3rd quarter by only 1 goal (14-15). The team went into the last quarter just 5 goals down and managed to pull the score up to a 3 goal difference. The final score was 43-46 to Marshalls, therefore allowing the Silvers to still earn some extra points by keeping the score within a 5 goal difference.Final Result 43-46
Everyone played extremely well and fought hard throughout the close match. Hopefully as the team plays together more throughout the season with less positional changes made threfore creating a better rhythm and flow within the team.Report by Phoebie B
